Everyone owns at least one media player in the computer, and loves the merits of each. What media player do you usually use to play video on PC? Windows Media Player? VLC Player? KMPlayer? BS.Player? Winamp? QuickTime? It can be said that each program works roughly similar. It has the main full screen window and alternatively, various ‘mini’ versions which can be perched in the screen corner so we can for example adjust the volume, skip a track, or pause a song while, etc. But personally I like Media Player Classic – Home Cinema best. I think that it is a real exquisite and light-weight media player for windows. And it can offer me the high quality playback of my video content.

But now, I tried to play some Blu-ray movies on MPC-HC and found most Blu-ray movies playing with no signs, and some just came out the voice, some only showed image, no sound. It was really annoying me.

Follow is my steps:

First: I just removed the encryption from my Blu-rays using this Blu-ray decryptor, then made a full disc copy to my PC hard drive.
Second: After that, started MPC-HC and clicked File → Open File to load the Blu-ray movies.
Third: Played the Blu-Ray movies and came the above issues.

How do I play Blu-ray movies on MPC-HC successfully?

I knew that playing Blu-ray movie on PC needed a powerful PC and video card, it was not a problem with my PC. Then I tried other media players like VLC, KMPlayer, etc, I also got these or those problems for watching Blu-ray movies. Then our RD guys told me that most media players in the market can not decode the Blu-ray disc fast and completely to satisfy our demand. So if we like to enjoy a Blu-ray movie smoothly and perfectly, we need to convert it into media players’ most suitable format and enjoy the high quality. Or we can spend money on purchasing CyberLink PowerDVD to perfectly play Blu-ray movie back.

I did not want to get a PowerDVD. So I tried to convert my Blu-ray movie to MPEG-1 video (*.mpg), MPEG-2 HD video (*.mpg) and other formats for my MPC-HC with this simplest Blu-ray Ripper, which is also a great Blu-ray decryptor I mentioned above. Follow is two most suitable formats and settings that let me satisfied.

1.I converted Blu-ray to MPEG-1 video (*.mpg) with settings like video codec: mpeg1,
video size (pix): 320*240, Bitrate (kbps): medium quality, Frame rate (fps): 23.97, audio codec: mp2, Sample rate (hz):44100, Bitrate (bps):224000, channels: stereo. After conversion, I got the movie with amazing small size. And I can play with my MPC-HC, the quality is not very high, but had not A/V out of sync issue.

2.In order to get HD quality video for playing on MPC-HC, I converted Blu-ray to MPEG-2 HD video (*.mpg) with settings like video codec: mpeg2, video size (pix): 1920*1080, Bitrate (kbps): high quality, Frame rate (fps): 30, audio codec: mp2, Sample rate (hz):48000, Bitrate (bps):320000, channels: stereo. After conversion, I found the image was still keeping its high quality, the effect was just as good as Blu-ray. And audio was synced perfectly with the video.

I don’t want to waste much money on these Blu-ray things, and I’m just lucky I found this most suitable way for me to enjoy my Blu-ray movies on MPC-HC. Hope it can also help you.

Have you spent much money on Blu-ray discs? Do you worry that your favorite Blu-ray discs will be broken or get damaged after playing several times? Do you think it is better to make a backup of Blu-rays to PC hard drive, HDD for playing without a fear of damage? Personally, when I got a Blu-ray movie, I would create a back-up of my full Blu-Ray disc without losing any quality to PC hard drive or external hard drive and then play on my MacBook or other media devices.

Here I just recommend you to make a full Blu-ray disc copy to hard drive on Mac with Moyea Blu-Ray Ripper for Mac, which can easily crack the complicated Blu-Ray encryption and let you copy the whole Blu-ray movie with original structure to hard drive in just one hour.

1. Why I strongly recommend Moyea Blu-Ray Ripper for Mac

∗ Directly decrypt all Blu-ray encryption and copy Blu-Ray/DVD to hard drive with pristine quality and structure in about one hour.
∗ Rip/compress Blu-ray and DVD to any other formats for playing on iPad, iPod, iPhone, Xbox 360, etc with excellent HD quality and smaller size.
∗ Enable to select any chapter, title, subtitle and audio language of Blu-Ray or DVD for converting or ripping.
∗ Fluently edit video by trimming, cropping, merging, adding logo, deinterlacing, adjusting video effects and so on.
∗ Support Mac OS X 10.5 above (including Mac OS X 10.5 X Leopard，Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard) on iMac, MacBook, Mac Pro, etc.
∗ Download it for FREE NOW: Moyea Blu-Ray Ripper for Mac.

2. Step by step: How to copy Blu-ray movie to hard disc

Follow the guide to easily and quickly copy your Blu-ray disc to hard disc with the Mac Blu-Ray Ripper.

1. Start the program and load your Blu-ray disc.

Click “BD/DVD Folder”, “IFO” button to import your Blu-Ray disc, Blu-ray folder or Blu-ray IFO file to the program. It only takes 2 or 3 seconds to load your Blu-ray movie. And then you could see all titles and chapters are displayed in right order in the main list.

2. The way to copy your whole Blu-ray disc to hard drive.

To make a full backup of the Blu-ray disc to hard drive without changing original structure and quality, you only need to click “DiskCopy” button to start your entire Blu-ray backup, it will take about one hour to complete it. So easy and fast, please check the follow picture.

What attracts you most for getting iPad? Some may focus on the 10-hour battery life for entertainment when traveling, and some may prefer the big screen with high definition. From the report in January 2010 by Apple CEO Steve Jobs, we all know that iPad, as a tablet computer, enjoys 9.7-inch LED-backlist glossy widescreen with 1024×768-pixel resolution.

iPad brings unbeatable experience to users with the touchscreen and widescreen. From my point of view, we can make the best of the iPad’s big screen for games and movies.

Play games
Through iTunes App Store, you can find tons of apps for iPad. At the Apple’s iPad event when Steve Jobs unveiled the report for iPad, Electronic Arts (EA) represented the iPad version of Need for Speed: Shift with higher resolution than the iPhone game. It has been improved with 18 exciting tracks, 28 cars, and beautiful physics-based 3D graphics. The price is $14.99 USD. There are also other racing games for iPad with lower price like Real Racing HD and Asphalt 5. Actually I prefer Need for Speed Shift to enjoy the 3D graphics.

One game I should mention is SimCity, which is for city building. The small screen on iPhone made it hard to control the game, and the scene was not in detailed. The big screen on iPad comes as a good choice for playing games to see a lot more detail than iPhone and other portable devices.

Watch movies
The iPad glossy widescreen makes it easy to enjoy videos in high-definition. Get movies and videos from iTune Store and you can watch the videos for 10 hours. However, the videos in iTunes Store may not satisfy all your needs, especially when you have some videos on iMac or camcorder. Before syncing videos to iPad, we shall bear in mind that iPad supports videos up to 720p (1280×720). The video formats could be mp4, m4v, avi (encoded with MJPEG).

For the mts, m2ts videos from AVCHD camcorder from JVC, Cannon, Sony; tod and mod videos from other camcorder, I would recommend you an easy video converter named Moyea Video Converter for Mac. It works on iMac and converts your videos to iPad compatible MP4 format. Then you can sync the video to iPad via iTunes library.

As everyone knows, AACS (Advanced Access Content System) is a standard for content distribution and digital rights management, which has been adopted as the access restriction scheme for Blu-Ray Disc (BD) and HD DVD, so you can not access to and copy the content from Blu-Ray and HD DVD. And you can not even play the movie on your monitor or TV when it is not HDCP compliant. HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) is a technology implanted in most monitors/video cards and TVs, which allows the monitors or TVs to use certain HD devices such as a Blu-ray player or some video game consoles.

All Blu-Rays have security embedded on the disc. This security ensures that high definition movies can only be displayed through a graphics card that supports HDCP (High Definition Content Protection) and a monitor or a TV that does as well. So if you don’t have an HDCP compatible graphics card & monitor & TV, and then start to play a Blu-Ray movie, you will get a warning “Your system is no compatible with HDCP, Blu-Ray playback will be disabled.”

With this problem, I will show you two solutions.

First solution: To be able to play back Blu-Ray movie on PC or TV, you need a monitor that is HDCP compliant as well as a video card that is HDCP compliant or a TV that is HDCP compliant. So you can take out your purse and purchase the new HDCP compliant devices.

Second solution: Invest in Moyea Blu-Ray Ripper, it’s cheaper than a new TV or monitor and video card and it is the software capable of dealing with AACS (up to MKBv17) and BD+ copy protection (under MKBv12), so you can run this powerful Blu-Ray Ripper to remove the HDCP restrictions and get all your Blu-Ray discs cracked with ease. Then you can play your Blu-ray movie with high quality on a non HDCP PC or TV. And you can freely backup or convert these Blu-Ray movies for many usages.

Mac user can use Blu-Ray Ripper with Mac version here

Hope it helps.

A nice gentleman provided a nice article—15 worthy Blu-Ray movies for less than $15 in Cnet.com. I like these 15 worthy Blu-ray movies he culled down and selected from the list of bargain titles. They are “Fargo”, “Heathers”, “Silence of the Lambs”, “L.A. Confidential”, “Bullitt”, “Unforgiven”, “Beetlejuice”, “V for Vendetta”, “Swordfish”, “I am Legend”, “The Road Warrior”, “Enter the Dragon”, “Risky Business”, “The Dark Knight” and “Being There”.

I remembered the first time to watch the movie “Silence of the Lambs” in my psychology class. I was scared by many gruesome violent scenes. But it was really a near-perfect film because it chose to get inside the viewer’s head instead of displaying blood and carnage every 5 minutes. And Anthony Hopkins gave the most overrated performance of all time. And Foster was breathtaking as Clarice. He gave me chills every time I watched him.

“The Dark Knight” is my favorite movie. It’s much darker than “Batman Begins” and features superb performances by Christian Bale (he’s a 100% Batman), Heath Ledger (the modern and slightly insane Joker) and Aaron Eckhart (the terrifying two-face). This is really a great movie and everyone should really watch it.

“Fargo” is a curious blend of humor and violence, none of it gratuitous. The plot is straightforward and often predictable, but the execution of the film lifts it far above the average. The problem with Fargo is that there aren’t any substantial characters. Everyone, from the overwrought Jerry to the methodical Marge, is a pure caricature. None of these people are particularly interesting or sympathetic.

“Heathers” is a tough entry into the tough black-comic genre; don’t be surprised if it becomes a classic.

“Risky Business” is like a promising first novel, with all the pros and cons that come with that territory.

…

These 15 Blu-ray movies were priced at less than $15 on Amazon, and all were classic works. So if you have interests to own them and play on your computer with WMP, QuickTime, VLC player or KMPlayer or other portable devices. You may need to get these Blu-rays’ protection cracked first and then backup to your PC or hard drive or convert them to workable format for your media players for enjoyment.
Have you already got an iPad with a gorgeous 9.7 inch 1024*768 high-resolution widescreen? Have you saved tons of favorite video files on your computer? Have you even imagined watching these beloved videos on your iPad? If you have, I can help you to make that happen.

In what situation should you transcode the videos?

If your videos are not H.264, MPEG4, AAC encoded MP4, MOV, M4V format, you’ll have to. If your videos are over 720p, you’ll have to. The iPad can’t play other video format and anything with higher resolution.

If you want to enjoy content of different formats like MKV, FLV, M2TS, VOB, WMV, MOD, Divx, AVI, Xvid, etc in iPad, you can use an application like Moyea Video Converter for Mac to transcode these videos into iPad workable H.264 MPEG4 (*.mp4) format.

If you want to watch movies over 720p in iPad widescreen with maximum display, you can also transcode your videos into the largest 16:9 resolution the iPad’s LCD screen natively supports: 1024 by 576 pixels. Of course, when you transcode a 1080p, 1080i movies, you will take them all the way down to 1024 by 576 pixels or 720p (1280 by 720 pixels) or less resolution with a noticeable drop in quality.

In Moyea Video Converter for Mac, there is a function of presetting parameters of output format (iPad MPEG-4 (*.mp4), iPad H.264 (*.mp4), iPad HD Video (*.mp4)) by clicking “Settings” section, you can adjust the size (resolution), bitrate, frame rate, sample rate, etc for better your output videos with minimum quality losses. You can also use the default settings it prepared for you, for it has tested to be the nice sweet settings, which can play just fine on your iPad.

If your videos are in 4:3 letterbox aspect ratio and you want to zoom into full screen, you can also use Cropping function in Editor window to cut off the black tops and bottoms from the videos. The image will be some or less stretched, but checking the box of “Keep Original Aspect Ratio” can help you stretch while preserving aspect ratio with good quality and no letterboxing (black areas).

Then you can load you your videos onto your iPad and just stream them from your network device or PC to iPad via iTunes.

iPad will kick out Mini DVD player

If the iPad is just for video, all those mini DVD players on the market will take a major hit.

Portable mini DVD player was once an ideal movie playing tool for long flights and car rides with its large, high-resolution widescreen display, long battery life and light weight. Now with the arrival of iPad, with its gorgeous touch screen, 9.7-inch LED backlit IPS display, up to 720p video resolution support, 10 hours battery life, 1.5 pounds weights, Netflix, huge movie offering of the iTunes stores, etc, Apple iPad is destined to leave Mini DVD Players in the dust.

iPad VS Mini DVD Player

First let’s take a look at the specifications of both. For Sony DVP-FX930 is a winning and popular portable DVD player with its stunning high-resolution screen and longer battery life, so I just take it as an example.

First Round: iPad wins Mini DVD Player

Obviously iPad is lighter than Mini DVD Player, so it is easier for you to bring it everywhere. Then the screen display resolution of iPad is higher than mini DVD player, so it is sure to be a better device for enjoying high-quality movie. Moreover, iPad’s longer battery life is absolutely a great competitive advantage. From these three points, we can consider iPad as a better choice for movie enjoyment based on portability and video display effect.

Second Round: iPad wins Mini DVD Player

Then we can know that iPad has Netflix and the huge movies offering of the iTunes stores too (rent or buy), and you can even watch YouTube video online. iPad also supports playing H.264, MOV, M4V, MP4, MPEG-4, MJPEG video formats, so you can sync videos to your iPad via iTunes from your PC. So it is remarkable for enjoying kinds of videos. And all these can not be realized on Mini DVD player.

Third Round: Can Mini DVD Player win iPad?

Mini DVD player is a great and portable device for playback DVD movies when you travel. If you have a lot of DVD discs and only want to enjoy these DVD movies on your long trip, Mini DVD player is sure to be the thing you want. For you can’t even insert a DVD disc into the iPad. iPad can’t help you to play your DVD discs. So can we consider Mini DVD Player as the winner in this round? Not anymore. Cause right now, only an excellent DVD ripping program — Moyea DVD Ripper for Mac can help you play DVD movies on iPad and even act better than mini DVD player. Only one thing you need to do is to import your DVD movies into the program, rip and convert them into iPad workable format like iPad (*.MP4) on Mac, then sync these converted videos to iPad. After that, you can enjoy your DVD movies on iPad with pristine quality for long flights and car rides, and you even need not take any DVD disc along. So, in this round, I think that iPad is still the winner for its convenience.

So enjoy your favorite movies on the road with large, high-resolution widescreen display and long battery life, this Apple iPad is sure to be the best companion when you travel.

They’re already smeared and smudged with the fingerprints of us tech geeks who needed to be the first in line to buy the iPad. But for those who don’t feel the need to make their friends envious or have strangers ooh and aah when they pull out their tablet on the SkyTrain, is Apple’s latest moneymaker a must-have?

The iPad is no fad, but neither is it an immediate game-changer that will leave behind anyone not onboard right at this moment. You may want an iPad, but the truth is you don’t need one.

Apple sold more than 300,000 iPads on April 3, launch day in the U.S. By 6 a.m. that day, about 20 Canadians were among the 150 customers lined up outside Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood, Washington, the location of the Apple Store closest to the border. I was in line behind Rasheed Akhtar and Nico Alary, two app designers from Vancouver’s Pallian Creative. For Akhtar, Alary, and me, the iPad has become our favourite gadget since then.

The iPad’s best features are an incredibly robust battery lasting 10-plus hours and a quick on-off button. But despite the elegance of its design and its amazing touchscreen, the iPad has not become an essential tool in my working life, nor have its entertainment capabilities made other gadgets obsolete.

The problem with the iPad is also the genius behind it. It combines many of the features desirable to anyone who travels, waits in line or takes the bus, watches movies, or listens to music. But it doesn’t allow you to do everything.

If you don’t have a laptop, a Sony Reader or Amazon Kindle, an iPod, or an iPhone (or other smartphone), the iPad is perfect for you. If you have any two out of the four, the iPad doesn’t add anything to your current arsenal.

The iPhone’s entry into the mobile market in 2007 was more significant because it was a real replacement device. The iPad isn’t a new screen to replace a current one. It might become the third or fourth screen you’ll be carting around every day—an extra half-kilogram of gear.

Everything is brighter and bigger on the iPad, but there’s nothing the iPad can do that other devices cannot. Sure, video is amazingly clear on the iPad, but a laptop won’t attract fingerprints. The sound quality with headphones on isn’t much different than that of an iPod, but the speakers on the iPad are good enough to hear dialogue in a movie without the volume being jacked all the way up.

For now, only the 16-, 32-, and 64-gigabyte Wi-Fi models—which sell for US$499, US$599, and US$699—are available, and just in the U.S. A Canadian rollout of all Wi-Fi– and 3G-enabled models is expected at the end of May.

Despite all the hype, by hour two on launch day, anyone could walk into an Apple Store and purchase one, and there were no reports of stock outages. For Canadians getting one from the U.S., an American gift card or an American credit card and address are needed to get into the U.S. App Store.

Games like Cogs HD and Labyrinth 2 HD show off the potential of the iPad as a gaming machine, according to Monty Hayter, a salesperson and part-time app developer from Langley who picked one up on the first day.

“The big apps and those from the iPhone look remarkably good scaled up to fill the screen,” Hayter said in a phone interview.

Hayter and I both initially had trouble typing with the iPad’s on-screen keyboard but adjusted quickly. While I’m unlikely to be able to type as fast on the iPad as I can on a laptop, it’s faster than thumb-typing on the BlackBerry. As Hayter and I both found, though, the bigger problems with the iPad can’t be overcome without added hardware or paid apps. There’s no SD card reader slot or even a USB port for downloading and uploading pictures or files. For those functions, you need to buy adapters.

For those of us who’ve resolved not to pay for apps, free apps are plentiful. Sure, some of the paid games with wow graphics—like Asphalt 5 HD—are neat, but there are enough free apps to provide plenty of entertainment.

So, is the iPad worth the price? For me, reading newspapers like the New York Times and listening to and watching videos from the BBC on the iPad are worth half the price of the device alone. The free apps, including iBooks, are easily worth the other half. Although e-books cost more through iBooks than on the Kindle or the Sony Reader, the iPad, with its flip-action page-turning, is more fun and responsive than those other two devices.

There are so many reasons to love the new iPad, but its being indispensable isn’t one of them. For now, owning an iPad fulfills a desire but not a need.

For starters, the iPad is thinner and lighter than your notebook or netbook computer. At only half an inch thick and 1.5 pounds, the iPad can fit comfortably in your carry-on bag where you normally carry the current issue of PCWorld Magazine that you just bought at the airport gift shop. No need to carry an additional piece of luggage just for the iPad.

Next, the iPad will get you through the TSA security checkpoint with less hassle. Notebook computers have to be removed from the case and placed in their own separate bin for more detailed inspection, but the TSA has deemed that the iPad is not a notebook for the purposes of airport security and can be left in your carry-on bag.

Once you are through the security checkpoint and waiting at the gate, the other iPad advantages become more evident. For example, the iPad has about four times the battery life of a standard notebook, and about double the battery life of most netbooks. A notebook can barely survive a short hop from Dallas to Houston, but the iPad can keep on chugging along even on cross-country flights.

Next, the iPad is much less cumbersome and significantly more convenient. Unless you are sitting in first class, the area between your chest and the seat in front of you is barely enough space to take a deep breath. Unfolding a laptop on your knees, or folding down the tray table and trying to work there requires some moves normally reserved for contortionists.

Assuming you manage to get that far, you still have to navigate most notebooks and netbooks using a touchpad of some sort, or resort to an external mouse–not very practical given the lack of space to work with. The touchscreen interface of the iPad, combined with the slim, flat-panel design, make it ideal for working in the cramped spaces on an airplane and intuitively navigating through the OS.

The last reason I will offer for taking the iPad and leaving the notebook at home is versatility. The iPad has an instant-on interface and can easily transition from playing music, to watching a movie, to typing a document in Pages, to surfing the Web (if your flight is so equipped), to playing a game of Tetris. It offers both business productivity and consumer entertainment in one slim package.

The iPad provides enough business productivity to fill in for the notebook even on a business trip. You can still get e-mail, and surf the Web, and with the right apps–or cloud-based services–you can create and edit documents, spreadsheets, and presentations as well.

Granted, a notebook computer can also play MP3 files and DVD movies, but again–it takes up more space–often its own carry-on bag, you have to take it out to get through the TSA security checkpoint, it only has a quarter of the battery life, and its too cumbersome to use practically in flight.

My colleague Dan Frakes has chimed in with his take on the five best surprises from the iPad’s launch. I’m in total agreement with his list—well, except for the name thing. The iPad’s design is elegant, the size seems about right for a device designed to surf the wWeb and handle e-mail and e-book reading. I really want to buy one…

Almost.

Unfortunately, there are a handful of shortcomings with the iPad that I have to think about before I buy the tablet.

No video camera: The lack of a camera surprised me—it almost seems like an intentional omission, so that Apple has something neat to show in “iPad 2.0.” A device with a large, gorgeous, full color screen, a 1GHz CPU, wireless and 3G internet access…and no way to hold a video chat? (Or audio chat for that matter—I don’t think there’s a microphone, either. Perhaps there’s one in the headphones, though.)

With a video camera, the iPad could definitely replace the Mac laptop in our family room…but without it, that means I’ll need to lug out the laptop anytime grandma wants a video chat with her grandkids. If I have to do that anyway, I might as well just use the laptop in the first place.

No multitasking: If there were a video camera and you could have a video chat with someone, it would be very useful to leave the iPad version of iChat running in the background—otherwise, you’d be quitting and launching it all the time to check if grandma had arrived yet or not. Notifications are nice, but not nearly as nice as simply having the window there all the time.

It’d be pretty simple to design an interface to allow toggling between two running apps; some variant on Exposé, or a three-finger twist-swipe. I’m not talking about full OS X-style multitasking (though that’d be great), but just the ability to keep a key app or two open in the background.

Support for Flash: Let me start by saying this…I have a strong dislike for Flash in general. The fact that it takes up to 80 percent of the CPU in a quad-core 2.66GHz Mac Pro to render a 400×300 Flash game just boggles my mind—full OpenGL games running at 1920×1200 often do so with lower CPU utilization! So yes, I know Flash is a CPU hog. I know it kills battery life. But like it or hate it, Flash is still a large part of the Web experience today for many people—and not just for those seeking Flash games.

Even during casual browsing, the odds are very good that you’ll run into a Flash-enhanced (and I use that term loosely) site at some point—heck, it even happened to Steve Jobs today during his presentation! At one point, while a page was loading, the “missing plug-in” icon appeared where a Flash movie would have been playing.

As much as I hate Flash, not supporting it on a device marketed as providing the ultimate portable Web experience is a glaring oversight. You can buy a full-featured (PC or Linux) notebook for less than the cost of a high-end iPad, and for that, you’d get full support for the Web and all its conventions—even those that Apple doesn’t want to support.

Bite the bullet, Apple, and find a way to enable Flash on the iPad. I don’t like it, I really don’t want it, but there are times I want to view a site that uses it, so I need it in order to make the iPad fully usable as the ultimate Web surfing machine.

True GPS only available only with 3G model: This bit should be footnoted with an I think disclaimer, because Apple’s iPad specs page isn’t very clear about this. However, based on comparing the Location section of that page to the same section of the iPhone specs page, I think the 3G chipset is the same as the one in the iPhone—which means you’d get the true GPS chip with the 3G-enabled iPad.

So basically, if you want to take full advantage of those gorgeous maps, you’ll need to pony up the $130 3G fee—because that fee buys you not only access to the AT&T 3G network, but a true GPS chip as well. Without the 3G chip, you get only an approximate location based on wireless device locations and a digital compass.

Video limitations: While the iPad can play 720p video, it can only output (at best) 576p and 480p—so no using your iPad to send the output of a 720p video to your high definition television. Related to this issue is the puzzling resolution of 1024×768—in a world where everything is headed to widescreen format, the iPad is reverting to the older 4×3 standard. Sure, it means apps that are run in double-size will fit the screen better, it means thicker black bars on pretty much every movie you watch.

To buy or not to buy

As I said up front, I really do like the new iPad. I’d love to buy one; it looks like an excellent surfing, e-mailing, and movie-watching machine. However, there are two show stoppers on the above list that mean I won’t be purchasing the first-generation iPad: the lack of a video camera and chat capabilities, and the lack of Flash support. Without those two things at least, I will be reaching for the laptop more often than not, so I might as well just keep using that for my casual Web, e-mail and video chatting needs. But with just a couple little tweaks, I can certainly see an iPad in my future.

With the release of a new video demonstrating the formidable capabilities of the upcoming HP Slate tablet PC, followed by the leak of a document comparing the specs of the HP Slate and the Apple iPad head-to-head, battle lines are being drawn and passionate opinions expressed regarding which is superior. The problem is that the comparison is an apples to oranges one between devices with different target audiences and intended purposes.

It is understandable to some degree because so much has been written (much of it by me) about the pros and cons of the Apple iPad as a business tool. Business professional purists are quick to condemn such claims, though, and equally quick to point out the many ways that the HP Slate, or any tablet not from Apple, is a real computer–more suited for grown-up business tasks. The thing is that both can be right and the two points of view are not mutually exclusive.

For example, I have two hardbound collections of paper on my desk. One is a book on information security, and the other is a notebook filled with blank pages. At first glance, the two appear similar but I can argue that the information security book is superior because it provides knowledge and information to improve my ability to protect and secure a computer network, or I can argue that the blank notebook is superior because it offers a versatile platform on which I can freely create whatever I choose.

The fact of the matter is that–outward appearances aside–the two collections of paper are not at all alike. They each serve entirely different purposes and each is good at what it does. Granted, I can choose to draw pictures on the pages of the information security book, or I can use the blank notebook to record tips and best practices for information security, so there is some potential crossover. However, the potential crossover is not a justification for a direct comparison.

Business professionals take company-issued laptops and use them for Solitaire, or playing Halo or World of Warcraft online. They shop eBay and Amazon from them. They view YouTube videos and play DVD movies on them. Nobody ever stops to accuse laptop computers of trying to be an Xbox 360 or an iPod Touch simply because it also has some entertainment potential.

Why is it then, that so many PC purists feel threatened by the Apple iPad? It is a consumer device built– first and foremost–for media consumption. Admittedly, it is engineered for music, and movies, and Web surfing, but with thousands of apps available–many of which provide business functionality–there is no denying that the iPad will also be used as a business tool by some.

I think the root of the issue comes down to old-school thinking regarding the line in the sand between consumer gadget and business machine. That line is gone. A device is a device is a device.

The main thing is that users don’t want to have to carry, charge, sync, and update five different devices. Whether the platform of choice ends up being the Apple iPad, or the HP Slate, or some other device, business professionals–particularly road warriors–need something that can be both productive and entertaining rather than packing a notebook, and an e-reader, and an MP3-player, etc.

In the end, it is a personal and subjective choice to opt for a consumer-oriented entertainment device and figure out how to make it productive, or choose the business-capable tablet PC and try to emulate the entertainment experience.

Either way, both the Apple iPad and the HP Slate appear to be very capable devices that deliver what their target audiences are looking for. Just stop trying to compare them head-to-head because there is no “right” answer.

As of January, I had zero interest in purchasing an iPad. As an avid Apple customer, I already owned an iPhone and felt no need to purchase a gigantic version of a product already in my possession. That all changed as we approached April 3rd, and rave reviews flooded the Internet. Sure enough, the day came and a 32GB iPad was mine. I’ve had the device for a little over a week now and am proud to report that it’s fantastic. Yes, it looks like a massive iPhone, but it’s capable of so much more and has the power to change mobile media forever.

Whether this brief assessment compels you to pick one up, you’re an Apple addict and have had one since midnight on April 3rd or you’re opting to view from afar for the time being, it’s important to know that the iPad has the power to be a movie lover’s best friend. Check out the best of the best in terms of apps, settings and more that are sure to get any film fanatic hooked.

Applications

IMDb: The ultimate resource for anything and everything movies. The interface is beautifully designed, keeping things simple and providing easy access to information, including showtimes, the STARmeter, TV schedules and more. Upon selecting a specific film, the poster and images of the cast are brightly displayed with further details neatly printed in text below. All basic information can be viewed at a glance, with additional information just a tap away.

Netflix: Not only can you edit your queue on the fly (WiFi accessibility provided, of course), the Netflix app also offers instant streaming. Yes, you can select a movie from the Watch Instantly section and have it play in full 9.7-inch glory immediately. With a decent Internet connection, the quality of the film is pristine.

iBooks: With book-to-film adaptations being all the rage in Hollywood, you’ll need to have reading material at your fingertips. The books vary in price, but most new releases cost $12.99. Why toss your paperback for a digital version? The iBooks app provides a search function allowing you to scan the entire book for a specific word or phrase. On top of that, the font can be made bigger or smaller and you can place a bookmark anywhere you’d like by simply tapping and holding a word. The one drawback to iBooks is that the selection is limited, but that’s where Kindle comes in. Yes, there’s a Kindle app for the iPad and, like iBooks, the app itself is free. Simply download both for a wider collection.

Wallpaper

As a movie lover, you’ll need an image from your favorite film in the background. Computer desktop wallpaper makes for excellent iPad decoration. Simply find wallpaper from your favorite film floating around the web, save it to your computer, sync it to your iPad and set it as your lock screen, home screen or both. “WALL-E” currently resides on my device and he looks pretty damn good.

iTunes

The ability to purchase feature length films on iTunes has been around for quite awhile, but being able to watch one of the films on a 9.7-inch screen as opposed to the iPod Touch’s 3.5-inch display is a game changer. Now the question is, to buy or to rent? Of course renting is the more appealing option considering renting a movie like “District 9” costs just $3.99 while buying it would run you $14.99, but that rental comes with an expiration date. You’re only given 24 hours to finish your film and unless you’ve allocated enough time to finish in that minimal window, it’s not worth it. Drop the big bucks now to avoid running up a larger tab re-renting later.

Did you get an iPad? What tips do you have for movie lovers who own the device?

When the iPad was launched it got the two main complaints:

1) The name was atrocious

2) It was underpowered and lacking some simple niceties

Now, there is another product joining the tablet wars – WePad. It is a German-made unit by Neofonie that promises “fast Internet connectivity, a complete world of ready-to-use applications and easy access to books and photos, as well as magazines and newspapers from various publishers via the WeMahazine ePublishing Eco System.”

You know, because “we” is plural of “I”? Yeah, it’s a stretch. Specs wise, it seems that the device is more powerful than the Apple iPad.

WePad – 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 Pineview-M CPU

11.6-inch (1366×768 pixels)

Built-in 1.3-megapixel camera

2 USB ports, SIM card slot

Flash and Adobe AIR support

A mooted six hours of battery life

iPad – Apple’s 1Ghz ARM-based A4 processor

9.7-inch (1024×768 pixels)

In addition, Neofonie has its own publishing platform called WeMagazine mainly used to make newpapers and magazines readable on computers and smartphones. The plan to adopt this technology on WePad in a move will make them compete not only with iPad, but with the Amazon Kindle as well.

Although the WePad is not yet available for sale and a price has not yet been set, it will hit the German market prior to iPad. However, the two powerful tablets can not play Blu-ray and DVD movies directly. So it is necessary to convert Blu-ray and DVD to iPad or WePad workabe formats.

PS: From WePad’s oficial website you could know more detailed information about WePad.

Can iPad play 720p videos? With its maximum screen resolution is 1024×768 pixels, 720p video can be really played on iPad and maintained with its native resolution? We know that the iPad’s screen isn’t HD. It’s not even in a 16:9 aspect ratio. To play 720p video at 720p, we need a screen that supports a 1280 x 720 resolution (921,600 pixels). But the iPad just has a 1024 x 768 resolution (786,432 pixels) with the old-school television 4:3 ratio. So I have always had doubts about the truth of playing 720p HD videos on iPad.

April 5, 2010-the first day I got my iPad, I could not wait to unpack it and load my prepared 720p (1280 * 720 * 30p video, H.264 encoding, bitrate to achieve about 4M) trailer for “Iron Man 2″ to my iPad…Whoa. Absolutely gorgeous. Watching movies on the plane will never be the same again. The 720p video could be perfectly played on my iPad.

In order to make the best use of its larger, high-resolution screen for movie enjoyment, I tried to put some complete HD movies like Avatar, Twilight, or Harry Potter Series, etc which in 1080p or 1080i MKV, M2TS, or WMV format from my computer to iPad. First I converted these high quality 1080p or 1080i MKV, M2TS videos to iPad workable format HD MP4 (h.264, AAC encoded) and preset the best output video/audio parameters with an excellent HD Video Converter on PC, after conversion, I synced these converted MP4 videos to my iPad via iTunes and enjoyed with my family. Wow, it was amazing; we had sat through the entire movies without a hitch, the image quality is exactly good with 720p effect.

Until now, I’m pleased with my iPad, for its convenience, its wide/gorgeous screen, its long battery life, its fast speed, and its 720p content support.

Take your a moment just imagining that you are on a long air, bus or train trip, what things do you like to do to kill your boring time? Sightseeing, thinking, taking a nap, listening to music, or watching movie? Watching movie, most people like to choose. Then please imagine again that on such a long trip, how many movies or how much time you can enjoy (videos) with your computer, network, or some portable devices? 1 hour, 2 hours, or 3 hours? We know that the best device or computer we owned just has 2.5 hours battery life. So now I’d like to ask: When on a long (5 or 9 hours) trip, you are enjoying your first or second movie at the climax, suddenly, the power is off, you have to stop, will you feel very upset or bad at this moment? Yes, I will. I had ever experienced such an unsatisfied situation and have always waiting for a wonderful media player which can let me enjoy movies for longer time on my long trip.

Now iPad hits the market with 10 hours battery life for playing video.

The first time Jobs said the iPad would have a 10-hour battery life on January, 2010, I was so excited and just for this reason, I preordered my current iPad. Now I got my iPad and confirmed that iPad has been the fact that this sucker will keep running on battery power for 10 hours. Wow, this is indeed one of the most highly praises of my iPad.

My great iPad has ultra sharp wide screen display for playing MOV, MP4, M4V videos, up to 720p high resolution. And I have lots of movies like FLV, AVI, M2TS, MOD, TiVo, MKV, VOB, WMV, DRM-MS, VP6, OGG, etc on my computer. In order to prepare and put some movies to my iPad for my next business trip, I have to convert them first and then import to my iPad for playing. So I just use Moyea Video Converter and import the movies to the program and convert to MP4 format. Then I sync them to my iPad via iTunes. Wow, the quality is so perfect beyond my imagination. I’m so pleased with my iPad for enjoying movies on such a great screen for such a long time. And I will not feel depressed any more when watching movie on my long business trip, I will never experience the situation of “Must stop my movie enjoyment”. So amazing! I love my iPad and its 10 hours battery life.

If you have gotten an Apple iPad with ultra sharp wide screen display, 10 hours battery life, do you think of playing your recorded HD videos from camcorders such as JVC GZ-HM400, Panasonic HDC-SD7, Canon FS100, Sony HDR-HC3 etc on your new iPad with perfect quality on a long journey?

But we know that all your recorded videos from digital HD camcorder can not be directly played on your iPad, for iPad is capable of playing video like M4V, MP4, MOV, and MJPEG AVI. In order to play camcorder video on iPad, we need to convert camcorder video (MOD, TOD, MTS, M2TS, M2T) to iPad supported video formats. Below is step-by-step guide to show you how to convert HD video to iPad with Moyea HD Video Converter.

Step 1: Download Moyea HD to iPad Video Converter

Download free trial version with watermark on output video here: Moyea HD to iPad Video Converter, then install and launch this program.

Step 2: Load the camcorder HD videos to the program

Drag and drop your camcorder video (MOD, TOD, MTS, M2TS, M2T video) you want to convert from your computer hard disc to the program.

Step 3: Customize output settings for your iPad with best quality.

Then you can select an output format for iPad and specify a path on your computer to save the output files. Here I select iPad HD video (*.mp4) as output format, for iPad can perfectly play 720p high quality videos. Then you can click “Settings” to preset the parameters for the output format, I recommend that you just use the default settings we provide for you (H.264, AAC encoded, size 1280*720, video frame rate 30fps, audio sample rate 48000 hz, bitrate up to 16000 bps, etc).

Since the release of Apple iPad, there are many benefits of keeping an iPad. It is said that it supports many files like ppt, pdf as mail attachment. However, have you ever noticed that there is no USB port on iPad? Then, how to transfer videos and songs to iPad?

Actually, it is not the issue to iPad only. There is the same problem with Apple iPod, iPhone. Apple provides a cable connecter for iPad with the common USB port so that you can sync the files on computer to iPad. Besides the connector, you shall have iTunes installed on your computer to sync videos and songs to iPad. That means the media files shall be supported by iTunes. For the TV shows and music from iTunes store, there is no problem for direct sync. However, for the favorite videos on computer, the DVD movies on Blu-ray disc or widescreen DVD disc you purchased from Amazon or other retail stores, you shall convert them to iTunes compatible format. Here I would like to introduce you the full steps to sync videos to Apple iPad.

Required materials:

Apple dock connecter with USB cable

iTunes software

Video to iPad converter

For the video to iPad converter, I recommend Moyea Blu-Ray Video Converter Ultimate. It not only supports converting Blu-ray and widescreen DVD to iPad file, but also allows various video import formats like MKV, WMV, FLV, TOD.

Step 1. Import Blu-ray DVD and video to the all-in-one iPad converter

The iPad converter makes it possible to play any videos on Apple iPad, as it can handle most videos and Blu-ray DVD as source. The supported import file formats includes but not limited to *.tivo, *.avi, *.wmv, *.mpg, *.mp4, *.mov,*.flv, *.swf, *.mkv, *.mvi, *.mp3.

Step 2. Choose iPad profile as output

There are 3 default iPad profiles for you to choose from. The default profiles make it easy to get the videos in H.264 to play on iPad with high quality. You can also customize the output file specifications like bit rate, video size, frame rate and so on.

Step 4. Get iPad videos

Click the Convert button and the program start conversion. The time for conversion depends on the video files you want to convert.

Step 5. Add iPad videos to iTunes

Choose File > Add File to Library from the menu bar of iTunes, and then you can select the iPad videos from the output folder. The files will be added to iTunes in the twinkling of an eye.

Step 6. Connect iPad to computer

Use the Apple USB dock connecter which is available in the box after you purchased iPad. One port is particular for Apple iPad, and the other port is the common USB plug. This is necessary to get your iPad connected to computer. When it is successfully connected, the iPad logo will appear on iTunes.

Step 7. Sync videos to iPad

Drag the files from the iTunes library to the iPad logo on iTunes, and the mouse pointer will change to an Add sign “+”. Release the mouse and the videos will be transferred to iPad.

Then you can enjoy and play videos on iPad, no matter what formats your videos are.
